Shelbyville, Indiana – The City of Shelbyville is pleased to announce the installation of Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacons (RRFBs) across North and South Harrison Street in the historic district. These state-of-the-art crosswalk signals were installed yesterday and are designed to significantly improve pedestrian safety in our community.
RRFBs are highly effective in increasing driver awareness of pedestrians crossing the street. According to studies by the Federal Highway Administration, the installation of RRFBs can lead to a 47% reduction in pedestrian crashes and a 98% driver yield rate to pedestrians in crosswalks. By implementing these safety measures, the City of Shelbyville aims to create a safer environment for all residents and visitors.
