The City of Shelbyville Common Council (commonly referred to as the "City Council") is the legislative branch of city government. They are responsible for passing the City's budget, passing laws or ordinances and the spending of money that the City collects in taxes and other forms of revenue.
Council members are elected to a 4-year term, which expires on December 31, 2027. They are elected from the 5 wards of the City of Shelbyville plus 2 at-large members who represent all 5 wards.
All Council Members get to serve on sub-committees that are tasked with focusing on specific details that pertain to the community and the operations of the City Government. These committees range from Financing and Salaries to Ordinances and Tax Abatements. Every Council member also gets to serve as liaisons between specific city departments and the full council. This page outlines each Council Member's appointments to committees and liaison positions.
